Science Test: Respiratory & Circulatory

Respiratory and Circulatory Study Notes

Respiratory System:
What is the function of the respiratory system:
The function is to bring oxygen in and carbon dioxide out of the body. The oxygen is carried through out the body in the blood stream.
What are the main parts found in the respiratory system?
1. Lungs 2. Trachea 3. Nose 4. Bronchioles 5. Diaphragm 6. Bronchi 7. Epiglottis 8. Mouth 9. Alveoli  10. Pharynx 11. Larynx 12. Capillaries (Cross over from the Circulatory System – this is how both systems are connected) 13. Nasal Cavity
You will need to be able to label the parts of the body.
How does the body bring in oxygen and takes out carbon dioxide?
When you breath in through your nose. The air travels down your trachea into your lungs. Where it travels into the bronchi which travels down the bronchioles into the alveoli’s. There the capillaries exchange oxygen for carbon dioxide.
***
The process of inhaling and exhaling. To inhale, your diaphragm must contract to create space in your chest for air to fill up.
To exhale your diaphragm must relax to push out the carbon dioxide.

Circulatory System:

What is the function of the circulatory system:
To pump blood through out the body that contains oxygen and nutrients to support your body’s needs.
What are the main parts found in the circulatory system?
1. Heart  2. Vessels – Artery (from the heart & Veins (to the heart)  3. Blood (Red, White, Plasma, Platelets)
You will need to label the heart.
You will also need to show the blood flow.

Final Question:
How are these two system connected to each other?

Science: Respiratory PostCards

You are to design a postcard for the journey air takes throughout the body. This is due Wednesday November 26, 2014

Criteria to be Successful:

Designs:

1. Visuals on the postcard are clear and relate to the topic of respiratory system
a.  Graphics are bold and visual
b. Outlined to enhance the picture
2. Colourful
3. Neat and Easy to Read title

Message:

1.  Clear steps for breathing in our own words
2.  Neat and easy to read printing
3.  Details that explain each process
4. Grammar, spelling of scientific words, punctuation
